Has anyone ever replaced the rear barn door lock?
I am having a heck of a time removing the old one.
The key lock cover is broken off and all I want to do is replace it with one that has the flip up cover.
Any ideas or help???

Thanks in advanced for your replies.
Javier

Jvier,

My guess is that your are referring to the rear door on a '51 panel body.

Have you removed the lock clip? As I recall it is a curved plate that pulls right out the door and releases the lock mechanism. It is often rusted in place - spray with a lot of WD-40, etc., from the door edge side. There is a 90 degree edge on the clip that you can pry under (and scrape the paint, of course).

Javier,,just as TCLEDERMAN says,,but sometimes its buried under the weatherstrip, with a bunch of glue around it(and rust).
I think the lock from a front door is the same? Just the swivel rod that attaches to the lock is longer on the panel.
Good Luck,Marty

Somehow I managed to drop that clip inside my rear door and had a heck of a time fishing it out. If I remember correctly the clip is different then the front door. So be careful you don't lose it or misplace it.

Thanks for the replies. It turned out that I tweaking the same area, just was'nt trying hard enough.
I just had to pull on the lock clip a little harder.
Now the rear barn door lock has the cover for the key hole. smile
During all this I also replaced the passenger door window, And next I will be replacing the very back rear side windows.

Does any any one know of a specific company that makes these windows?
I am looking for them as close as original as possible.
I know my local glass shop would probably cut them out for me, but I just would not feel right knowing that they are not OG.
