The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Panels 'N Burbs Which one is most rare ?

I had this discussion with a good friend of mine and we could not agree... so I said I'll ask my fellow Stovebolter for their opinion.. Which Burb is more rare Panel or Suburban (with windows)and which is more expensive ? Thanks ahead for your opinion, Ed

in my travels i usually see more panels than suburbans. i think a suburban is worth more than a panel.(wish i could find one to go with my panel)

HI,delux54panel , I just purchased a 65 burb from the high desert for $4000 It's got no rust,maybe 3 small dings, air bag suspension and a 350 camaro engine with Edelbrock carb and intake and Headman headers the PO said I can pickup the 2 rear bench seats after Thanksgiving... Hope he comes through with the seats, still think I got a decent deal, already drove it and shreded one of the rear tires, They were old tires and I should of known better than to drive it on the freeway at 70 ! Had to pay $100 to tow it home since I had no spare,jack or tire wrench!!, Guess I got too excited...

Hi Ed...sounds like you got a pretty decent deal.
especially if he comes thru with the seats, but even if not,thats ok too.
probably at this point it would be a good idea to spend an evening or two and give the truck a "once over" just to make sure you know whats going on at 70 m.p.h. on the fwy.
electrical,brakes,all fluids,hood latch,door latches,front suspension,coolant hoses,lug nuts,tires,etc.......etc......most of all,ENJOY IT!!

Absolutely !! Im parking it and going to replace valve cover gaskets,oil pan gas, plugs,wires battery cables ,TIRES,and all the stuff you mentioned, That way I can really roll and enjoy!!

delux54, careful what you wish for. Look at the "trucks for sale" section, there is a 50 that is so solid and straight and I have seen it. Priced right too. Jon

I think the Burbs are rarer due the the fact that many businesses bought panels for hauling whatever gear they may need in their profession. They kept them around longer and in good mechanical shape as that was their livelyhood. I'm sure someone on the board can tell us the actual numbers built if Chevy,GMC actually broke them out that way.

I'm not so sure about that! As a fleet mechanic, I fix them and maintain the properly. However, the users don't treat them as personal vehicles. They don't own them or pay the bills so why would they?? These poor vehicles are used as tools, ladders, storage, etc. They are used and abused! By the time their usefull life is up, they are a tired, worn vehicle. Current life for a fleet vehicle at my company averages about 5 years.

Mom and Pop vehicles might be a different story.

I know the panels last longer before rust. The windows in the burb led to earlier rust problems. When I was shopping for mine I saw way more panels. Probably 10 to 1

i have read some where the 55 1st series gmc was the most "rare" with only around 450 made. i can't find that tidbit here it may have been at the old gmc truck pages.?????

Since I own a '55 1st GMC Suburban I'd love to think its rare and valuable.

However I understood that the records that would confirm such a thing had all been lost or destroyed. If you can point me to something that confirms this I'd love to know where it can be found!
