I thought some of you would like to see what a factory PCV setup looks like.

This is a '54 Chevy 261 engine. It came out of a 2-ton truck at the salvage yard. When I bought it I thought it was a 235 because it had the high position water pump. I assumed (wrongly) :o that the 261 had the lower and longer shaft water pump like the later 235's. Another weird thing about this engine, is that it has hydraulic lifters! I thought only passenger cars with automatic trannys had those.

The PCV valve sits on top of the elbow coming out the side of the breather tube. It's attached to a crossover pipe which goes across the valve cover to the intake manifold. There is also a tube running from the valve cover to the air cleaner. I've also included some pics of the casting date, casting number and the boss where the serial number used to be! Someone ground it off at some point? eek

I read somewhere that all Canadian 261's had hydraulic lifters and a factory predrilled 848 head.

Sure enough, this one does have the 848 head with the steam holes drilled out. I guess I need to go back to the salvage yard and check out the VIN tag. That should tell me if it is a Canadian truck, right?
