I just put a bunch of needed parts on my '64. Most of them were Taiwanese reproductions.

And they were JUNK! I'm serious! They were more like here's a big chunk of metal - now just carve out anything that doesn't look like what you need! The last time I was that disappointed in something, I was 7 years old and I got a model airplane kit for my birthday. It looked great on the box cover, but then I opened the box, and it was just pieces of balsa wood and tissue paper! (Never did get that thing together frown )

Without specifying exactly where I got them, let's just say that anyone who actually tried to use those parts on a truck would end up being real freakin' grumpy!

drboyd,,,I know exactly where youre comin from.
Last time i had an experience with reproduction parts,,I ended up being real GRUMPY also.
I felt like aliens had taken my TRUCK and hid it in a SHOP somewhere and did weird things to it.
On the way home I stopped at a FILLING STATION and even the guy there told me not to use those parts no more.
He said,"L",,"M" parts is "C"rap.
I guess thats what i get for wanting to put nice parts on an AMERICAN CLASSIC.
(dont everyone get riled up,,i just couldnt help myself)

I can speak from experience on this matter. I, too, have vented my dissatisfaction. It was pointed out to me that you can't pay rice in America to make these parts. I've only bought a couple of things so far and the quality hasn't been that bad. To me, it just wasn't American. It may be just due to I'm fond of the Jack Daniels and not Saki. As long as it makes my truck look good and nobody else knows or cares, I'll live with it.

Cheers

Door stop strap, door lock buttons with keys, glove box liner. I'm here to tell you - lube your door stop strap! You don't want to replace it!

BTW - does anyone know how to change out an ignition lock cylinder?

drboyd,,,Theres a little hole about the diameter of a paper clip on the face of the key switch.
You have to turn your switch to the "acc' position and push the paper clip in to unlock the tumbler,,twist it to the right(or is it left)
and the switch will pull out.
This is only referring to the lock tumbler unit.
Good Luck,
Marty

-Hmmm. Mine has two "paper clip holes" on the face. Actually both the existing one and the new Taiwan repop have two holes, so it's not just something that fell out somewhere around Hawaii. Do I shove a paperclip in both of them?

Just one. You will feel the spring pressure when you get the right one.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Delux54panel and Wrenchbender, thank you very much! It worked like a charm! Now the same key does both doors, the glove box and the ignition. (Although it is a Taiwan repop, and how knows now long it will last!)

I ordered a shop manual, so when it gets here I won't be quite so much of a PITA!

Thanks again!
