Hello everyone, I guess I am the new guy on the block. Been a member of the forum for a couple of years but just recently took the plunge and bought myself a bolt. Its been real interesting so far. The site has been a wealth of information and now that I am into it I am sure I will have specific questions that I may not be able to find the answers to. You seem to be a bunch of friendly guys and gals always willing to give advice. I hope that extends to your cousins to the north (Canada). I am in Perth Ontario just outside Ottawa. I was wondering if there are any stovebolters on the forums that are near me. Would like to hear from you. I have a 50 1/2 ton Chev with a 216. Pretty much stock except for the Moose Guard on the front. There is a picture of the beast in the gallery http://www.stovebolt.com/gallery/vorano_dan_1950.html
I hope to get some more photos done soon and will post them. Best regards Dan V

Dan:
Aren't we lucky to have these old bolts to bring back memories of the "good old days". Welcome to the Bolt as a real member in good standing. Burn the battery up in that digital camera and share your progress with us. Some guys here can answer every question you might have, the rest of us know a little but all of us are willing to share what we know. Sometimes you will find competing opinions but that just proves how many ways you can "skin a cat."
My apologizes to the cat lovers...

When I was a kid, by grandfather had one too. I have fond memories of the squirrel hunting trips and fishing trips we took in that truck.

The 5 window was called a "Custom Cab".

What a great looking truck. Welcome to the Bolt!

Always get a 2nd opinion, especially if I am the source of the 1st opinion.

Ontario, eh? I heard of that. Where is that, anyway? Out east of Calgary somewhere, ain't it?

Got a nice truck, though.

That Moose guard you speak of is actually a G.M. Factory Accessory Grille guard, for '47-'53 trucks.

I'm about 3 hours west of you, also on highway 7. Welcome to the site, Dan. We'll all shove over a bit and make room for you.

Well thanks for the warm welcome. I just spent the day at the 2007 International Plowing Match and Country Festival. Quite a big event, about 80,000 people visited over the last few days. They had an extremely interesting heritage vehicle exhibit. There was a 50 panel truck simular to the one I see in your pic spanky. Thanks for the heads up on the grille guard. I thought I had seen this grille on another pickup picture that I had seen but was not sure if it was a factory accessory or not. I have not seen it in any of the Chevy accessories. There were a ton of old stovebolts at the plowing match from 1/2 tons to big bolts there. The biggest single collections there was a local company called Tackaberry Construction. The owner had between 40 to 50 vehicles there from pickups to tractor trailers. He keeps them in a climate controlled building in Athens Ont. Here are a few links to some of the collection.http://hankstruckpictures.com/hr_tackaberry_truck_museum.htm
