I would like to know if the 8 lug rims from a 79 GMC will swap with the ones on my 54 1 ton. I have a chance to get them free but want to make sure it is a match. If not what years will match up? Thanks for the help.

Good chance! The bolt pattern is same, the hole in middle is the question. Measure yours and the new ones and check. Some say clearance on the tie-rods may be a problem. Can't you "borrow" one and try it on your truck before purchasing?

One problem with the original front axle on the '54 is the clearance between the wheel and the steering arm. On a stock wheel it's less than 1/2 inch - meaning if the offset of a later wheel is much different, it may interfere.

The bolt spacing is identical, but the size of the hole is slightly larger (due to larger lugs) on the later wheels. I am using early wheels on a later axle with no problems.

Remember putting smaller diameter tires on it will increase engine RPM.

I'm still trying to find a donor wheel for my 1 ton. The problem i had with a few i've tried was they didn't clear the backing plate on the rear. haven't even messed with the front yet. smile
