| | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 56 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 56 | LMC trucks has a gas tank for my 1953 3600 3/4 pickup. It is a behind the seat tank and cost $130 plus $20 shipping.
The order taker said the tank has only a drain fitting at the bottom, not a fuel line fitting. I would need to run a fuel line to the sending unit on top of the tank. I have a new sending unit that I used to get the gauge working.
How do I make the gas come out the top of the tank instead of hte bottom, remember I am mechanically challenged, it often takes me three times to get the job done correctly.

Here are some thoughts. There was a thread recently about reproduction fuel tanks and the strange thread configuration of that bottom bung. Trucks of your years had the tank line exit the bottom. LMC might be under some legal constraints to make sure they inform the customers that this is a 'drain only' to comply with modern fuel tank standards.
To modify your sending unit with a piece of suction tube wouldn't be tough. My thought would be to research this a tad more, verify the pipe size and/or thread configuration of that bottom hole, and if all is well, install a small shut off valve and nipple, and use the bottom hole as a fuel supply line. I think it came from Detroit this way.
