What started out as (I had hoped) a simple brake job to get a beater truck back on the road has gotten considerably more involved. Thought I'd share a few pics of my project as it currently sits instead of just asking questions and complaining. :-)

Gonna be some serious bodywork in her future

A bit of rust in the ol' tailgate ... or is there just a bit of tailgate?

Last night I got her up on jackstands and removed the tailgate, bumper, and topper

Then today I removed the bed to make it easier to get to the brake lines, etc.

Yup — a lot easier to get in there now!

Anyone else see a problem here?

Virtually an entirely new brake setup is on its way from various places. Picked up some parts locally already, ordered other stuff online. Unfortunately for my wallet, now that I can see what I'm facing and know the springs need to be replaced, I'm now thinking about pulling the rearend out entirely and rebuilding the whole thing. Gotta take the springs off anyway and the brakes are going to be completely new, so it'd be a shame to put all those new parts on a rusty old rearend, right? C'mon, guys — back me up here! :-D

That's all for now. Thanks for all the help!

Brent

I totally agree with you on the rear end...but the suspense is killing me..I can't see your pics!

Brent, please link to your pictures. I did it for you this time but you're working me too hard.

Thanks

That is one messy set of brakes. I think you are spot on...rebuild while the thing is out.
Nice truck though...good luck
