Are all cabs the same or were there "A/C specific" cabs built for the trucks shipped with factory air? I have a 70 GMC that was not originaly equipped with A/C. I would like to put A/C in it and will need to figure out what my best options are. Any experience out there that anyone can share?

The AC cab is different. A vacuum operated fresh air vent is under the cowl, in the tray below the windshield. There are some other differences in the tin under there as well as the huge holes in the firewall are different.
Vintage Air, Old Air and the others sell systems tailor made for the 67-72 chevy truck with AC cab or heater only cab.

The best way to see tell if a cab has factory a/c is there will be a center vent above the stereo and an air vent on each lower outside corner of the dash. If you want the factory look you should find that cab or at least dash. They also make some aftermarket kits for these trucks that mount under the dash. These kits in my opinion dont look all that great.

On my last project (70 Chev 4x4 shortbed) My cab was rotton so I found an A/C cab rust free for $100 and had it all switched out in a day.

I need some WD-40 and a breaker bar!

Ive seen it done where you can cut the hole out to match & put in the factory air.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

I saw this truck on the 4th at a car show but was not able to locate the owner. Well detailed truck. I'm guessing Vintage air, but not sure. The center vent and AC control look very near the original. Vintage sells the side vents that also look like the original ball vents, but as you can see this guy chose a different style. The other advantage of using an after market setup is that the AC, heater and defroster are all under the dash. No steamer trunk sized suitcase that you have to reach over to touch the engine.
