Hello everyone -

I have doing some reading on sandblasting and I came across a link to a NIOSH site regarding the hazards of sandblasting using silica sand.

The reason I bring this up is because I know there are a lot of people out there who use the silica sand from Home Depot as their media of choice due to its low cost and convenience (myself included). I thought as long as I made sure I always wore a good respirator, everything was going to be fine, but after reading this article I think I am going to look at the procedure a bit differently.

Anyway, I'm not trying to be the town crier, and I am not trying to persuade anyone of anything, but here is a link for those who are interested.

Zipper - What did I forget?

64fleetside - I agree! But the way the information reads, not just any respirator.

Heres a another article with a bit more info about the problems of silica sand and safety suggestions to reduce risk. Essentially you need both ventilation and a respirator but should also consider additional safety considerations.
