This might not be what you were asking...it's all about weight transfer. If you raise the nose of the car, under hard acceleration off the line, the weight is thrown onto the back wheels for added traction. At least this is how I understand it. I have always loved the high stance and gasser straight axle look...it's mean!

You would have to remove your current front suspension and install a straight axle with leaf springs. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 843 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 843 | 64chevyrebel.Back in the 60's the slicks were hard wall with a width of about 9"The front end was raised to preload the back.On the launch the weight would transfer back even more. The cars used were Willys,Chevs,Studebakers, which had straight axles in them.Later other cars had straight axles in an attempt to loose weight. This is where I'll add that the cars did not handle worth a darn. But since all the were about the same, the playing field was level. When the softwall slick was introduced in the late 60's,that was the end of the highboy gasser.Down into the weeds went the racecars. If you want to win races, don't do it.There is a lot of suspension updates for your truck. If you are going for the "LOOK"of an old gasser, then fine. Please, realise that the old cars didn't handle well, that's the reason that they race a nostalgia races not NHRA,, Boyd | | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 116 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 116 | well how can i get the look but with out the bad handileing b/c i dont want no low sittin truck it doesent have be real high im trying 2 build a low buck sleeper truck im gonna go wit a 454 an some kinda Mannel trans something that i can play wit on d bullivard 4rm stop light 2 stop light i jus want a fast truck that looks kinda like something that somebody woulda built in the 60's 70's im nottin lookin 2 go 200 mph in a cruve but in a straght line
