The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk Where are all of the 55 2nd series?

I went to the Good Guys car show on Saturday here in Colorado. I was amazed that I did not find a single 55 Chevy second series truck in the lot. I saw several 57-59, but no 55 second series!

Does Anybody have a guess as to why you do not see a lot of this vehicle? Did they just not make that many that are left around or is it not a desirable truck to turn into a resto-rod?

Odd, when I went to Good Guys in Indy last year, there were quite a few of them there. I wouldn't think it wouldn't be desireable, especially if you saw '57-'59s, it's basically the same body style.

you just hit the wrong show Ross, or an off year - there's more 55 and 56 trucks around than 57-59, they've always been considered more desireable cuz many don't like the 57 grill and most don't like the quad headlights .... goofy if ya ask me

It just depends on the day. I went to a small town cruise last weekend and saw 8 55-57 chevy trucks and 1 nice 55 cameo.

You may not have seen them because tri5trucking has them all in his yard or shop!

Well I have a 55 2nd, and I love it. I do see them around now and then, but seem to see more of the 57 variety.

It's not that I don't like the 57 grill or quad headlights (like red58 sez), I just prefer the 55 grill and single headlight look. I guess it's just a matter of taste.

My dad was an auto mechanic and we worked on many cars and trucks together when I was growing up. Glad to see you have a son that is interested in such things.

I have to admit I am a task force man. I own a red 57 3100 and I like to stand and stare at it. My dad owned a 58 apache 40 years ago in Colorado Springs and I used to ride everywhere in it.I dont care for the double headlights as much but it doesnt really matter. I like the ADs too but I really like the task force series better. Just personal preference I guess.

Sometimes I think it's just what's available for sale when you're looking. I followed my 3600 Second for months in the local Truck Trader watching the price drop week by week until I finally jumped on it. I've had it for 13 years and can't imagine ever letting it go. I do think I'd have been just as happy with an A.D. or 57-59.

Thanks. I agree I am really having fun with my son. I am planning on having him help me with some of the body work soon. (Sanding down the old paint.) We are both on summer vacation and I am getting him all set up with his own 4" orbital sander, safety glasses, and a dust mask that he can hack away with. I wouldn't imagine he could do too much harm. 7 year olds only have so much of an attention span!

By the way, as tri5trucking said....nice truck! That is the color scheme I want to use on mine. I love the yellow with the chrome. What engine/transmission do you have in it?

I was told the engine was a 350 (year unknown), and it is still running the original 3 speed trans with the OD. I believe that the rear end is the 3.90, not the 4.11 I was told was in it. It cruises very comfortably at 65 - 70 mph down the road, now that I got the OD working. I was very fortunate that it was a relay problem and not a major mechanical one.
