This summer I'll have my cab and frame stripped and it's time to think about
the suspension, steering, brakes. I plan to use the Toyota setup for steering. I had beed thinking I was going to put in a 3" dropped axel. Looking at the truck tonight I noticed an obstacle relative to the dropped axel. If the axel is dropped any amount the leaf springs will be resting on the tie rod. Won't clear going over the top of the springs either. Lowering the front end on this model truck using a dropped axel must have been done many many times. Anyone know this gets resolved? Seems like the tie rod would have to have a 3" drop also. Alternatives?

Hi Slick. Welcome to the 'bolt! Wherever you get your dropped axle from will also have a kit to "flip" your tie rod. This involves drilling out the old steering arm balls and installing new tie rod ends upside down.

I have to think about it. I have a couple of axles..after the shipping costs it would probably
be the same or more as the aftermarket one... althought it might be nice to have an original one stretched..

check out the h.a.m.b website their is a guy in salt lake city that drop axles for around $200 bucks. he is in the throttlers car club and have heard good feedback, quick turnaround.

I have one of these axles that I picked up at a swap meet and it looks real nice.

I have one in my 53. Have to admit though I am seriously considering swapping it out for an original axle that was dropped by David Mann. It just looks way cooler IMHO.

I have to admit, a real dropped axle does look a lot better. I am saving that link and I may just sell my "Cenpen" and buy the real dropped.
