Hi All,

Recently acquired an old Chevy Truck Shop Manual which features Military 1-1/2 ton 4x4 that I am not sure of the year issued. There are 252 pages divided into 22 sections. I have not found any print date in this manual. I suspect it is from WW2. Below are links to some of the pages. Anything to pin point the print date of this manual is appreciated.

Cheers!

It's a manufactures manual for Chevrolet truch chassis. It's from WWII as you suspected, it should have a Gov Printing Office stamp and a date somewhere. a lot of the military manuals have the dates in the back along with the approving authority (Dept of ARMY/NAVY/MARINES). To a WWII vehicle buff it could be worth a lot.

Hi All,

I don't know anything about the WW2 trucks. I was sent two pages from the "75 years of Chevy" book which show the same models as in my manual. 1st page and 2nd page Going by these pages, this narrows it down to 1943 - 1945.

On another forum, it was suggested my manual could be a "post-war" issue because of the reference in the Foreword about converting from a four-wheel drive to two-wheel drive for highway use. Plus the reference to removing the winch, PTO and revised lubrication chart for commercial lubricants.

Cheers!

Hey All,

I was prompted on another board asking about the lubrication charts and I went to group/section 20 in the manual. On page 20-1 is info for conversion to civilian use. Here are all the pages in section 20:
page 20-2
page 20-3
page 20-4
page 20-5
page 20-6 Lube Points
page 20-7 Lube Chart 1
page 20-8 Lube Chart 2

I am now more inclined the think this is a post war manual.

Another suggestion for this manual was posted on another board:
"A significant number of them were converted to two wheel drive for utility purposes and issued to those who needed trucks for the war effort such as shipyards and various transport and construction duties. The removed parts were fed back into the supply chain for military purposes. During those years civilian production was suspended and to get a truck one had to be part of the war effort somehow."

Any thoughts on this anyone?

Cheers!
