Today I noticed that the intake manifolds are different. The intake off the 42 has larger bolt spacing for the carb. Also the the mounting bolts one bolt in from each end are tightening on little ears on the castings of the intake and exhaust manifolds. The 46 does not have these ears and has smaller spacing for the carb. Is one of these not original or what? I am making one good engine outta two and want it to go in my 1946 truck and kinda look original. Any ideas? | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 | what happened to the 216s? The late 235 is a great engine for your project. I think it was available in 54. the early one with the spash oiling isn't so good. the question is... what do you have? | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 641 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 641 | you probly want the one with the closer mounts only problem is the ports are smaller if you have a newer motor it will fit but not right do you have the alinement rings i just went though this with one of my motors made my alinement rings out of pipe a muffler shop cut them for me look at the ports in your head and use the manifold thats the right port size for the best fit or you may have leaks | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 42 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 42 | The just want to know if one of these manifolds has been replaced and is from a different newer engine or did these engines have two different designs. I ran the numbers for both engines and the 42 was made in 42. The 46 is just a little confusing as it has an A in front of the normal prefix of DEA. Number is ADEA 232028 . I looked and DEA prefix is for a 2nd edition 1946 engine. I am sure I will be able to use what I have. | | |
