Something else to consider, it will be worth more to him than others, as it is only a mile or two away, and he will save considerably in hauling costs, versus another thats maybe an hour or more away. And also, he has been wanting this one for some time, so if he dosen't at least try to strike a deal, he will most likely always regret it.

Everyone has their own way to justify how much they will spend. What I usually do is figure the most that it is worth (to me) then add about 10 percent, as I would be pssd if I lost out for a couple bucks to someone else.

OK,...J Lucas brings to a head the one great drawback,...I don't believe there is a title for this truck. I can sure get a bill of sale (good in Colorado for most other items,...like my '42 JD-B,...and older cars/trucks) but I don't know if that'll get me a title later on,...it maybe that I can have one reissued. I still won't be driving this truck on the "open road",...plenty of county road out here to "exercise" it on, and have fun too.
I've prepared a note to the owner, expect to deliver it in the AM, and hope I don't get shot rumaging around by his pickup truck! It can't be but fifty feet from his front door! I'll take my camera and get good shots before I try opening the hood to get that VIN#,...wish me luck! Todd.

I paid $550.00 for my '40. It sat next to a barn for 35 years. I would say that for it's age and for how long it sat, it was in good shape. You can judge for yourself by the pictures in the gallery. But I'll guarantee you there's more wrong than meets the eye. I'd say offer him $500 and save the other $1,500 to put into the truck.

And, J Lucas, Thanks! I've lived here for 21 years, and have driven past this truck twice a day during that period. I "belong" to this area after all that time, and this truck has been here longer than I. The owners, and family (in three adjacent farms) have given up and are selling. Since newcomers will by in (if any of these places EVER sell!), the future status of the truck cannot be determined. There are two flatbeds in fine shape on the land,...newer,... still 40's,...but I really want to save this 1/2 ton. I can't afford to save all three, and this is the oldest and has the most potential astheticly. As you stated, I would always regret NOT trying to acquire this truck. It's become a landmark to me!
I must admit this (if you couldn't already tell!),...I get emotionally attached to my vehicles. Each one has been a struggle, and it's as if I've birthed them,in bringing them back from the dead. I spent alot of time mulling over the purchase of each one,...is it in reasonable shape? Can I put it back on the road for reasonable costs? Is the vehicle one that will be desireable years from now? Then research, teardown, rebuilding,...stuggling all the way. This has made each one highly valued by me. And my drivers have gotten me out of touchy situations now and then, making them even more appreciated. There is nothing more rewarding than showing off a fine looking machine that YOU built (even if no one else knows YOU built it!)!
I think you guys have helped me complete my preliminary homework, and tomorrow I'll make the first steps in making things happen. It may mean the difference between the truck back on the road, or scrapped. And I guess I owe it that much (sounds pretty stupid, huh?). Todd.

Yo! Y'all! Thanks so much for your help,...and I sure learned alot! I can ID GM trucks from their grillwork! But the '40 Chev is "spoken for",...I think that means they're not selling! I'll give it another four or five years and ask again. I truly believe that the truck will simply sit,...hope they, or any new owners of the property, prove me wrong! I'd just like to see it saved! Back to scouting local barnyards and pastures,...Hope to be back on here again someday soon showing off a new purchase! Thanks again, Todd.
