I am not sure which gear drive to put on my 55.
I have heard stories about how loud the noisy one is. My dad has the quiet one on his El Camino and I could bearly hear it.
I want the loud one but will I regret it?

Is there some reason to go with a gear drive, other than just being different? I assume you're talking about a smallblock V-8, right? Those engines have run untold millions of miles with chain drives, with zero problems.

If you're talking about the fiber cam gear Vs. metal gear decision, on the stovebolt 6, go with the metal one. Fiber gears are marginally quieter, but the metal gear lasts a little longer.

I have the noisy one in my coupe. It's been that way for at least 10 years now. It runs fine and does not seem "too" loud to me. Just my .02

I say quite, noise is a form of wasted energy. So theoretically you get better mileage or power with the quiet one.
What good is a noisy one any way when you can get a quiet one?

I love the whine of direct gear drives at the track, but for a daily driver I would opt for quiet.

I never got a chance to input, but I like your choice. Keep in mind you have to have a progressive cam to make the gear drive sound enjoyable. a steady whine isn't nearly as great as a lopey err ra ra err ra ra err ra ra.

I have one that a guy took out because he couldn't hear the radio. I don't care I don't have a radio anyway. Mine is a Milodon gear drive and has a single spur gear drive. Very positive valve action and sounds like a GMC blower. I love the noise, hope you do too.

I'm building a differant 350 for use as a spare engine and test-bed.
I've got the noise from Pete Jackon and thought that at one time they made a two piece cover so ya did;nt have to fiddle to much to change things on the cam gear. I can't find it anywhere . Any one know.
