It has had quite a bit of work done on it, but needs plenty more. I have been searching for a site where useful information is exchanged, and think I have found it here.
I have a couple of quick questions regarding this era truck.
1. Is the heater fan supposed to run with the key off? (mine does)
2. Are the turn signals supposed to self cancel? (mine don't)
I have ordered some manuals for the truck, but can't wait to start wrenching. I hope I am not asking questions that have been beaten to death here. | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | Welcome to the 'Bolt. to answer your questions #1-No, the fan shoud not be on with the key off. Most likely the wire is connected to a constant live feed instead of a keyd one. #2-The signals should self cancel. The cancelling cam is probably worn or bent. Could also be a mis-alignment of the mechanisme in the housing, but that's unlikely. You can get a new cam from any of the parts suppliers, I got one for my '55 from American Classic (see link at top of page). Don't worry about asking questions if you can't find the answer. If/when you can, post some pix.

If it has the add-on switch they won't self cancel unless there's a little wheel rubbing against the steering wheel. Confused now?
By the way, welcome to the World of Stovebolters. | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 33 Junior Member | Junior Member Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 33 | It is the factory switch. Turn signals will have to wait until I get some heat out of it. I am not getting any hot water to the core. I must have a stuck/broken valve. After I figure that out, then I can chase down the fan wiring so it turns off with the switch.

To quote a popular song; "you can check out but you can never leave." But then, who would want to? Welcome to the 'bolt and have a great time with the truck. Signal canceling is as stated above. The only thing I can add to your heater switch question is that it indeed would depend whether your hot wire is at a switched location or not. My 59 recirculating heater switch, the rotating one, was wired constantly hot therefore it would have to be manually switched off. Only problem I ever had is when I used the low speed and it was so quiet I left the truck only to return to a dead battery. Only took a time or two for me to always use medium or high speed.

I did take some pics yesterday (in a brief break from the rain) and posted them on my web site. I think I have linked it in my signature.
