The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk Grille assembly?

I am putting my grille back together and can't for the life of me remember where the two little tubular braces go. They are about 5" long and are to support the grille and the gravel gaurd I think. I remember taking it apart saying "Gee this will go back together pretty easy and Brad has a grille breakdown on his site so no need to diagram it"....famous last words.

Any help would be appreciated.

oh yeah...that would help. It is a 46 1/2 ton.

The rest of the grille assembly is pretty straight forward...I just can't remember where these little braces go.

I think it is coming back to me...I think I remember these braces going from the gravel shield to the fenders....if someone can confirm that would be great.

If someone wouldn't mind taking a peek at their grille I would really appreciate it.

Zipper At the seem where the bumper brackets go through the valance [ gravel gard ? ] up to the captive nut on the rad pan. one each side. they are solid rod flattend on each end, should go on only one way.

That would explain why I can't remember...i still have the valance sitting in the corner because it is pretty rotted and I am trying to find another. :rolleyes:

Well at least I know now. These valances are very hard to find in metal that are still in good shape. I may have to bite the bullet and put a fiberglass one on.

I also am missing a metal valance. If I were to make a few from steel, would you be interested in buying one? what would something like that be worth? I also hate the thought of fiberglass and havnt been able to find one in steel.

Just a thought.

I would pay $75 to $100 for an exact metal replica that doesn't need to be tweeked. I can probably find a metal on that needs to be worked a little for about $50 or so. I am sure you would sell a whole lot of them if you could keep them at about that cost and make it worth your while. I have mine that is pretty beat up right now but it would give you a good guide to go by and would ship it to you if you can produce them.


Thanks for the link Keith. I got that same diagram from Brads site but it does not even show the braces. I did remember where they go after T-Ruck was so kind to tell me.

Zipper, concerning me making reproductions of that lower piece of sheet metal, I havnt got to it yet. I was a rookie then (smile) and I have been schooled now.

I finally got it on the road to shake it down, boy, what a lot of work. So much more I cant even tell you. I was being a little (or a lot!)optimistic with my time estimates back then (a few weeks ago)

Its on the road but that little piece of sheet metal is the least of my problems at the moment.

I will let you and others know if I ever get to it.

I do love the truck, I can tell you that!!!
