I noticed that the vin tag is missing.Is the vin number located on the chassis anywhere and is the vin tag replaceable? It apperars that the title has the engine number as a vin number.

There was a body serial number, but as you noticed, the engine number was used by most states for registration until the mid fifties. The tag is replaceable, but you would have no idea what the original serial number was. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 1,517 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 1,517 | Back in those days,,the v.i.n. was the same number as stamped on the machined flat surface to the rear of the distributor.
The number that you would see on the aluminum plate thats riveted on the hinge pillar when you open the driver door is the body serial number.
Thats the way it is,and always has been. Dont let anyone tell you different....Or they can tell you different ,just dont believe it.
