I have an AD 1 ton, the motor appears to not be original to the truck because the floor was cut to clear the tranny and the tin in front of radiator was cut to allow the radiator to move forward. The spot behind the dist. where the motor number is supposed to be is blank. Doesn't look like a number was ever there. The number on the head is 6836848. I can't find this number in any of the online number references.

If it's possible that your first number is a 3 instead of a 6, this page: http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/chevytalk/GMhistory/1916-57cast.html shows that 3836848 is the number from a 1956 235 head. Might that be possible?
