The description and photos posted for the hand throttle connection in another person's post were very helpfull for me. I was wondering if anybody had good pictures of how the throttle linkage (from the accelerator pedal to the carburetor) should look for a 58 Chevy, 1/2 ton. Mine works fine, but when I look at it, something just doesn't look right. I seem to do best with seeing something and duplicating it; that's why any pictures would be great. The truck's being painted right now (interior and exterior), but as soon as I get it back, I want to finish it and hopefully have it completed by the end of September.

from the factory they "just don't look right" this ain\'t great cuz it's in a bad position, but you'll be able to tell if yers is similar

What is the spring attached to on the other end? Unfortunately, my truck isn't available right now for me to look at it, but I think the spring is hooked onto the block. Can't be sure though since I heven't looked at the throttle linkage in months. I just figured, "Hey it works, I've got other things to take care of first." Now I'm getting near the end of those other things and am moving on to more other things ; ones that weren't immediate pressing needs or where I was unsure.

the spring connects to a tab off a pan bolt - same place a pedal return spring hooks [clutch?] - don't know if that's "original", but it works well

It was taken by stuffing the camera in corner, where the driver's side firewall meets the inner fenderwell, looking under the carb at the exhaust pipe just before it connects to the manifold. (There's no way a person could stick their head in there from the top...probably not from the bottom either!) It gives an idea of what is connected to where, including the spring. Like Bill/Red58 said, there is a tab off of the pan. The hose that you see in front of the linkage is for the oil filter.

Thanks for the pic. Nice looking truck. The engine looks a little different than mine, though. I see you kept the glass fuel filter. I have the old glass one still, but it's not currently installed. I was told it wasn't too safe if I plan to continue using the truck and was discouraged from reinstalling the original fuel filter housing (new cartridge of course ) Also, the air filter looks very different in particular the lid. Is that a paper type air filter instead of the old oil bath?

I plan to post some picks in the gallery once I get the truck back from the painters and recover the bench seat (not that I will be done, I doubt that I will ever be "done" with the truck ).

Yeah, the fuel filter bowl is the original glass type, as is the air filter as far as I know. It has this weird batting filter media and you fill it with about a half a quart or so of oil. I think it is original, but then again, it might be just "old" or "period."

I think you should post pictures and update as you can. There are some pretty "rustic" trucks out there, but each have their own charm. It will also remind you just how far you've come.

Bill - looks like someone lost the top for the air filter and replaced it with a pie pan! definitely not the original top, tho the base looks like it prolly is - here\'s an original oil bath

Lumbergh - nothing whatever unsafe about the original glass bowl fuel filter, they work fine if installed properly and the element lasts quite awhile if you slosh it off and clean the bowl when you see dirt - plastic burns, glass doesn't

Now that oil filter looks like mine. I had the same initial reaction to Bill's air filter as you, by the way.

I was told that there was an increased fire danger due to the potential breakage of the fuel filter bowl (versus the modern cylindrical metal one in there now) in the event of an accident.

Bill- I did take some digital stills using my video camera along with a short video before taking it to the painters. I was already kicking myself for not taking pictures before I removed the two sheets of plywood (installed at two different times) over the original bed and then pictures of the original bed itself before I ripped it out. Now I only have to try and figure out how to download the photos of the video camera. I suppose I could open the owner's manual that came with the camera, and maybe even read it this weekend :rolleyes: .

Out of love of my truck, and to defend her honor, I think I need to swap out my PIE PAN and get it corrected. There is a swap meet in a few weeks, so I'll try to pick on up there...afterall, I can't have anyone accusing me of driving a PIE WAGON.
