I looked up rear shocks on the gabriel site for my 54 1/2 ton and found the number 82050, which is a regular gas shock. My local supply guys cannot cross reference it to a load leveler type of shock with the coil spring surrounding the shock. Anybody know what kind of rear shock I could buy for a 54 1/2 that would be a load leveler? Part number would be helpful for my local supply guys!

Thanks!

I was just thinking my 54 half ton was sprung too stiff in the rear and was contemplating removing some leafs. You want even more spring on it? Does it ride stiff or soft? Maybe your original leaf springs are worn out?

I wouldn't use that kind of spring/shock on a '54, the shock mounts on the frame are not strong enough. You can go with an add-a-leaf or overload springs if you need them, but go with a standard gas shock or you will rip your mounts right off the frame. Another alternative is the frame-to axle mounted airbags.

Sadly, she sags a little in the right rear. Was hoping that a load leveler type shock might correct the sag (Cheaper than new springs). If not shocks or springs, what else could cause her sag like that? Please don't tell me a twisted frame.

Thanks!!

Bruce,

It most likely is a bad spring; but, yes, it could be a twisted/bent frame. My '54 pick-up has a twisted frame and I am looking into what can be done with it (so far, my local "frame benders" only work with modern vehicles).
