It wasn't at all what he said it was when I bought it. One day I decided I wanted an old dump truck. How was I to know it wasn't a one ton like he told me. Or that the motor wasn't a 283 but a mid 70's truck 350. All in the new, rear view mirror now that the wiring has been unraveled (was a bird nest), the carb rebuilt, new ignition and paint (it's been over 30 years since I've bent a wrench!!!) Looks and drives, uh, like a truck! It's geared so low it's downright criminal. At 50 mph, that motor is really whirlin'. The GM, 11 inch, 10 bolt diff turns 4 1/2 times for one of the wheel, making it a 4.57 or something. I'm told no aftermkt gears are made for this (small mkt). An aftermkt overdrive can be placed where the carrier bearing now resides for a mere $3k (just the unit). Any more "creative" solutions out there??? Later model rear end??? Two speed axle??? I don't mind the labor of rebuilding some other rear end and perhaps getting better brakes out of the deal???? Would a two speed axle be out of the question (are they always low and lower)???
