In 2003 (I think) there was a tech article in Custom Classic Trucks magazine where they converted a long-bed TF truck to a short-bed by shortening the frame. Does anyone have a copy of this article or remember it?

Can't help ya there, Old Gold, but I have been thinking about a potential Tech Tip.

What if we started a list of magazine tech articles that dealt specifically with Chevy and GMC trucks?

I've been scanning tech articles into PDF files so I can get rid of my stacks and stacks of magazines. I can problably list 20 or so right off the bat.

Any interest in this?

Absolutely! But there may be some copyright infringement issues, I'm not sure. It's not like we'd be selling them for profit though, so maybe not. It would definitely be great to have our own refernce library of tech articles.

Wait, I just read your post again and I see that you were just talking about a list of tech articles. No copyright problems there.

Hey Rusty Rod, If you happen to run across that, keep me in mind. I'd owe you lunch in town or something.

hey, custom classic trucks, did an series called "project old school"; they shortened the bed and frame of this '64, and also converted the truck to big window. could this have been the article you were talking about? go to custon classic truck's webpage, click on tech, and go to page 5. hope this is what you were looking for.

TF stands for Task Force;that refers to the '55 second series to '59. To be truthful,I don't know what the designation is for the '60-'66 models, and I own a '62!

Alex - TF = the 55 2nd to 59 trucks

Locobreath - copying magazine articles to post on the net requires written permission from the copyright holder [the magazine publisher], no matter if it's for profit or not, unless permission is specifically granted in the magazine

Red58 - point well taken; I am aware. I didn't say anything about posting the copies. I am scanning articles for my own use... that's why I could come up with a starter list.

But what I am talking about is posting a LIST of the articles, not copies of the actual articles. At least if you knew which magazine it was in, you might find one among your friends or maybe on eBay.

Well if you find the one about shortening a 55-59 frame, please let me know. Even if someone could tell me what issue that was in would be extremely helpful. I'd like to see how the pros did it.

Old Gold -- I have a complete set of Classic Trucks and Custom Classic Trucks magazines.
Don't remember an article on the Task Force truck, but I have one on the 67-72 truck. It's in the Aug. '95 issue of Classic Trucks. Should be about the same...

I'd be happy to scan the article and email it to you.

The April 2003 issue of CCT also had an article on converting 67-72 longbeds into shortbeds.

Geez guys! I may be totally wrong about the year of that article. Now that I think about it it could have been earlier than 2003. I seem to remember being married to my first wife when I read it. That would put it back to 2002 or before. Funny how the women in my life and the cars I've owned become a time reference point for everything else.

Here's another trove of tech articles, I just discovered it today:

WebRodder

Seems to be a site sponsored by various vendors whose products may be featured in the articles. Most of the articles are by Doc Frohmader, who I surmise is a freelancer. I've seen a lot of his articles in different magazines.

292 fans should check out the "Six Pack To Go" series.

We (Classic Trucks) did that on Project Old School ('64 GMC longbed) a few years back, as Marc pointed out. Wasn't aware of CCT doing anything similar back then, but I didn't really start paying attention to what they did up until recently. Old Gold, do you need a copy of the magazine with the frame shortening? I can send you one if so.

Locobreath, that was from "memory"? Geez, I have a hard enough time remembering my home address!
