I have a 49 Chevy ½ ton truck that my brother-in-law and I recently worked on. We took off the manual transmission and all of the linkages. We encountered a problem when we went back to reassembling the clutch. While the transmission shifts gears normally, my problem is that the actual clutch pedal wobbles when I press it with my foot. It does not press in straight. It feels flimsy. There seems to be some play where the clutch shaft goes through the floorboard. Am I missing a bushing or something? I hope that I am explaining myself? Has anyone had this problem before? Maybe you can spot where you might have not tightened something, or have something backward. I think this is the proper diagram! Stuart http://chevy.tocmp.com/1929_54chevyparts/00/115.HTM | | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 324 Member | | Member Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 324 | My 39 has a machined shaft that the clutch and brake pedals pivot. the pedals have bushings no lub fittings. the bushings and shaft were worn on mine, and the pedal was loose enough to bind on the floor pan. The shaft has a collar with a solid pin holding the pedals from sliding off the end. the bell housing end goes through a cast bracket with 2 bolts holding that to the housing, with a 3rd bolt on the end of the machined shaft. i pulled the floor pans (all) and took the whole asembly as one unit. much easer to figure on the bench. i got new bushings mail order. not as nice as the OE. a machine shop turned a new shaft from 3/4" round stock. you may not need a new shaft if it isnt worn but i would still bet on worn bushings. These parts are hiden on Stuart's diagram. Good luck.

| | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | If the pedal assembly is anything like the '55-'59, the part that comes through the floor is a separate part from the lever that connects to the link rod. I had the same problem, it turned out to be a loose bolt that connected the 2 parts together. You may want to start there before you tear any thing apart.
