| | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 60 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 60 | I have a 48 chevy 3600 that somebody decided to mount a radio from a 54 chevy in the only problem with that is it left these nice extra large holes in the dash where the original knob holes were. My questions are Is there anyway to fix the holes without welding and is the 54 radio worth anything, hopefully enough to help fix the holes? Thanks Jess

If the '54 radio is a a truck radio (with speaker bracket and mounting bracket), it has a lot of value ($150-200 not working; $300+ working).
If it is a car radio, its value is much less: $20-100 for manual tuning; $30-?? for push-button tuning (depending on if it is working and all the parts are there).
Someone else will have to answer about filling/covering the holes, but my guess is that welding is called for.

It has all the knobs the faceplate and all the presets are in good working order. I hooked up a little 6 volt battery to it with no avail. Im not even sure I was hooked up to the right wires though.As far as the welding goes My buddy has a 125 mig welder but both of us a really novice welders are welds are pretty freakish but with what were using them for there holding so we've never tried to weld thin gauge metal before and especially not pretty welds.I'll keep you posted

I am almost positive that the truck radio has no preset buttons. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 2,557 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 2,557 | If you have a piece of brass or copper about 1/4" or thicker.Hold it firm behind the holes and weld,filling the holes.I use a piece of 3/8"brass when filling holes.The weld will not stick to the brass or copper.Of coarse you have to consider the curvature of the dash.

It is still possible that someone cobbed in an earlier truck radio that had push-button tuning. A picture would help solve this mystery. If it is an earlier truck radio, it has decent value.
