How do I determine the differential gear ratio of my recently acquired 1940 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup? Also, were there multiple "rear ends" in the early years? If it makes a difference, the original 216 was replaced with a "56" 235ci quite some time ago.

The way I was tought is to count the teeth on the ring and pinion gear and divide them, that will give you your ratio. Jeremy

There was a post on this in the Engine and Driveline Shop just a few days ago that dealt with torque tube gear ratios.
