The bed of my gmc measured approx 94"... long bed right? Was the long bed used on any 1/2 tons, or just 3/4 tons? I guess what is confusing me is the 6 lug bolt pattern.

BBSD,

1940 3/4 ton had the 6 bolt pattern. That's where all those cool artillery wheels came from. Quick way to check on the chevy, probably the same on GMC, are the springs under the frame in the rear or mounted on the side of the frame. under is 1/2 ton, side is 3/4 ton or maybe 1 ton.

BBSD - My 1940 GMC is a long bed 1/2 ton as well. I think Bill is right. The location of the rear leaf springs will tell you. My springs are mounted to the bottom of the frame, rather than to the side. You can also decipher your truck's serial number. That will tell you for sure. In the meantime, post some pictures of your truck so we can all enjoy it.

My camera is newer than my truck, but not by much. It was made in 1952, shoots 35 mm film, and takes beautiful 3D pictures. Unfortunately it is not EZ to digitize these pictures. I will try to borrow a digital camera and shoot a few pics to share.
