I have no idea where to start...
Also, I see a lot of "carb rebuilding kits." Am I going into this blind with one of these kits or are they very well prepared? Last, if anyone in the DFW area knows where a good, cheap, reliable place is to have this done, let me know, thanks
Stephen

When I was turning wrenches I could throw a kit in a Q-jet in an hour. Since then I have learned that there's a lot that I wasn't doing. It's now an all day job for me.

Try $150 (with core), if they can get them (at least that's the case in SoCal). Rebuild kits are $10-15 and still relatively common at most auto parts. You can barely get a good complete core off ebay for $40! | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 328 Member | Member Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 328 | yup, if it's gonna be $150 to rebuild it, I might as well get a brand new edelbrock 600cfm for like 180 and that'll have a warranty...and it's new. Next question - just how hard is it to put on a new carb? | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 88 Member | Member Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 88 | Just saw your "edit". My response was in relation to a Rochester 1bbl. If you've got a Q-Jet, you're not improving anything by putting an Edelbrock on. A rebuilt 750 will actually get better mileage than a new 600 Edelbrock!
Were you serious about how hard it is to install a carb? | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 119 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: May 2005 Posts: 119 | About my $41 bill at Napa, I forgot to mention that I know the owner (he rebuilt it). All he did is put a carb kit in it and clean it up of course. What's this "core charge" your talking about? I guess there's a big difference in price from NE Wis. to SoCal. It was rebuilt two week ago. | | |
