Well I opened the front door today and found my new/rebuilt starter had been delivered. My question is I have a pedal starter and the new one has everything for that but the switch that I think reverses current, I don't really even know. Do I even need that part? I am running a 12 volt system with an HEI.
Thanks
Brian

You will not need that switch now with your new HEI. Even if you weren't going to HEO, that old system with the reversing switch was a bad invention that most people choose not to use.

There was a long discusion on that not long ago. I,ve been around these things for 55 years & have never seen one.

The infamous reversing switch was to protect the ignition points during the initial start procedure and is not required especially on electronic ignition. The thing was of poor design and was soon discontinued by GM in 48 or 49.

Hey thanks a bunch. Mine reversing switch was in really poor condition and probably not even working. Knowing it isn't needed will decfinately help.

Thanks again
Brian
