For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 19 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 19 | This weekend while on an adventure in -36 degree weather, I stumbled onto two 1960 chevy 4x4's. My inquiry was met with "You caught me at a great time. I need the money."
The short of it is, the trucks are complete, so I agreed to the asking price of $300.00 ea, delivered to my place.
Now I need to research everything so that I may restore them.
First, What type of axels are under this year of truck?
Second, Are parts redily available to rebuild them if needed?

Parts are available everywhere. the Colorado K5 webpage has an axle identifier page, that will tell you for sure. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 88 Member | | Member Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 88 | I've got a Dana 44 that I've sorta narrowed down to '60s GMC (poss 4x4) lineage. Unfortunately, the BOM numbers on the axle tube are long gone, so the only reference I have is the Delco Moraine part number on the backing plate, which I've yet to turn up further info from.
The housing "used" to have springs over the axle, but have since been relocated below. However, there were two 3/16 plate brackets off the front of the tubes that I can't quite figure out. (they've since been cut off, but I did leave the shock mounts for now) Does this sound like a GMC rear? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 19 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 19 | Thanks for the input from all of you. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 37 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 37 | Awesome score! Your front axles will both be Dana 44 with closed knuckles and drum brakes, unless swapped for something newer.
The rearend in the 3/4 ton is an Eaton H052. Search around here for more info on this axle, chevy used it from 46-72 under 3/4 and 1 tons. As for the rear in the half ton, I am not sure. It may be a common 12 bolt, or it may be the older Semi-float axle that resembles the Eaton.
