What are the bolts called that are like flange bolts, but then have an additional stud sticking out of the top of the head? They are used to hold an HEI external coil to the sidecovers on an older six cylinder.

Better yet, where would you find them?

never seen'em in the store, but they're common on small block water pumps to hold accessory brackets

Hy SixPac, I don't know what they call them, but I would find them in the parts book appropriate to the year and application, or at the wrecking yard.

I don't think they'll have them in the parts book, as they would probably just be sold with the coil, and I would have to do some guesswork on year, as my truck is a 66 and the HEI wouldn't have applied for that year, but I think the part about a wrecking yard is good. Unfortunately, we don't have many wrecking yards around here with the older stuff in them.

Somebody said it was a Double-Ended Hex Flange Bolt

Maybe if I take the original flange bolt out of my side covers and go to a specialty bolt house I can match it up.

Hy SixPac, here's a thought, take a stud of the appropriate diameter [I'm assuming it's 1/4"] get one 1-11/2" long screw it into the block and secure it with a nut and lockwasher, now put a flat washer on it and install your coil securing it with another lockwasher and nut.

I think that would work, just hoping the washer will seal the side cover as well as something with a flanged head.
