I've got a bead on a cheap GMC 1.5 ton truck.. the guy dosen't know much about it besides it's a GMC, has dualies, and the hood "opens up sideways".

Well the asking price is $15 a ton, so I figured i'd go take a look and see what he's got.. since it dosen't have a title, the only thing i'd want it for is parts, specifically the following:

Windshield wiper motor and arm
Windshield frame
Door guts and hardware
Gas tank & seat

So assuming this truck is a '41 thru '46 GMC, would these parts swap with a '46 Chevrolet?

Of course, from what i've been able to gather from the gallery, a "gull wing hood" could go back alot further than 1941.. guess I won't know for sure what year it is till I go look.. which will probably be this saturday.

The parts you mentioned would be the same. The GMC grill parts are valuable in reasonable condition. It will have an 80# oil gauge. GMC 228 engine.

I went and had a look at it today.. definately a GMC, definately not a '41-'46.

It had the headlights sticking out of the side of the radiator, like the pre-'41 trucks, but had a dash identical to what you see in a '41-'46 chevy.

Windshield was also split type, and looked just like you'd find in a '41 thru 46.

So other than the headlights being mounted off the side of the radiator, and the grill being way different, it looked just like my '46 2 ton.

From what i've seen in the gallery, it's gotta be a 1939 or 1940.. the grill this thing had is identical to the ones pictured in the '39 gallery.

The bad news is that the windshield frame is shot, the fenders are banged up, the seat is toast, and the engine is missing a carb, starter, and generator. No vac wiper motor, and the windshield crank is shot.

The good news is the chrome grill looks just about perfect.. but i'm not luggin' that thing home just to yank the grill out of it.

I ended up buying a GMC cab for $50 that looks identical to my '46 cab, except the dashboard is flat like a dodge or ford, and has round gauges.. but it's got a split windshield with a really nice frame.. maybe that one is a '39? Looks like from the gallery that '39 is when they started with the split windshield in the GMC's.

The 1.5 ton is a 1940 if it has the same dash as 41-46. The GMC cab is a 39 with the flat dash and round gauges. The 39-40 cab looks the same as 41-46 but the cowl is about 1 1/2 inch longer on the 41-46. Windshield will be the same.
I have a 39 GMC and I'm looking for that grill. Let's do some swapping. I sent you a PM.
