I recently purchased a 6400 grain truck through an Ebay auction. I got my first actual look at it this past week and was absolutely thrilled to find it in better condition than the description, especially for $215.

The only cab rust is low on the inside of the doors and is only surface rust, at least at first glance. The cab corners are good.

All glass is excellent. The backrest and seat are good with a slight pothole where the driver sits.

Engine free and appears good. Starter shot so I didn't get a chance to fire it up. A later 12 volt solenoid starter added to a 1950 flywheel makes good metal filings when the teeth don't mesh. Thanks for the infomation about that fellow Stovebolters.

Anyway, on the firewall in something that I'm not familiar with. Was there an electrically driven vacuum pump available for the wipers in 1950?

The unit I speak of has a defroster sized motor below what I'm guessing to be a pump of some sort. Two hoses come off of the upper portion, one to the right and one to the left. They go through the firewall into the cab. The hoses are about the typical size for vacuum hoses.

There is no water container for it to be a washer, nor does there appear to be any nozzles to convey water to the windshield.

What is it? I can't find it in my assembly manual and didn't have the time to look and follow the hoses through the dash. Why two if it is for vacuum wipers.

A picture might help, but I don't recall anything like that. The only vacuum booster from the factory was the fuel pump combo.

I'll have to get some film developed and see if the unit shows up well enough in the photo for ID purposes.

I suspect it is a vacuum pump but time will tell. I haven't gotten the truck home yet so can't just go out and have a first hand look.

It sure sounds like a Vacuum assist pump for you vacuum wipers, it should have two wires one power and the other ground that is connected with one the mounting bolts. These are often found on the bigger trucks 1 ½ & 2 ton, Sometimes all the need is a little cleaning and a bit of lube and your back ready to go.

Hey Windy in Kansas, You've got one of the "Rare" accessory W/S Wiper Vacuum Boosters. GMC Prt. No. 2233295. Out of the 30 some, Advance Design Trucks, I've had total. Only one of them, had this Booster. It was on a '55 1st series Chevy COE, I had. I've got it out in the shop. It's exactly as you described yours. I mentioned, one of these, in the "Rarest Accessory" post, a few weeks ago.
