I'm a farmer from PA looking for an old truck to drive to farm markets. I just found a really nice looking 1933 Chevy Stakebody for sale. I don't know a whole lot about working on trucks. My question is are these hard to maintain and find parts for? It also will need a new back end. It's geared way to low right now. Is it hard to find parts/shops for that? They guy is asking $6000 for it. It's in decent shape and it runs and drives fine.

6g's sounds mighty steep for a truck that needs a new back end.. i've seen 'em sell on eBay for around $2,000.

My experience with the '40's trucks is that they're pretty straightforward and easy for even the novice mechanic to keep running, but the big trucks are geared low for heavy load hauling.. they won't get you anyplace fast without a rearend swap and probably a tranny swap.

an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.
