This might be a novice request, but I am trying to remove the headlight brackets on the 58. It has what I have beenm told are clutch drive bolts. I cannot find this tool anywhere. Any suggestions? | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | Anonymous Unregistered | The various parts houses, American Classic, Chevy Duty, etc, have them for sale for around $16.00 a set. Some have found them at NAPA stores. | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 | NAPA. CarQuest. If you're lucky, junky ratcheting screwdriver sets that are available anywhere. A search in the tool forum would have revealed the above info... | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 37 Apprentice | Apprentice Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 37 | Thanks Fellas,
I had called the NAPA in my home town, and they didn't carry the tool. I called the NAPA in hte next town down and they carry them. | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 | NAPA is where I found mine.. but since many (if not all) NAPA stores are just franchise stores, in stock inventory varies from store to store.
Be careful with old clutch head screws! I've stripped more than one out trying the old "clamp a vicegrip on the handle of the driver" method!

When you replaced them did you use clutch or switch to standard or phillips? | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 | I dont ever put clutch head screws back in.. mostly because by the time I get 'em out they're too jacked up to use anymore! Flathead ("standard" ) screws do the job nicely. The bigger clutch head bolts, like they use to hold the rear fenders on, I replace with a standard hex head bolt.
Some cats are into the whole 200 point show truck resto deal, or just want their truck to be 110% factory original stock.. it all depends on what you're into.
There was a bolter on here who was looking for original clutch head screws.. I think he said he just needed the two or three for the drivers side vent trim.. he asked anybody who was gunna chuck the original screws to let him have them.

Back when the '46 was new the stock paintjob was them just dumpin' a bucket of paint over the roof.. no paintbrush required!
