Due to a leak in the old round core in my 52, I replaced my economy heater with a deluxe. Only problem is that I chose not to spring for the control valve, finding a rebuildable core seems to fall in the same category as searching for hens' teeth.

Has anyone rigged up any other control? The fresh air blowing thru just about cooked me out today.

Hey Fred, I installed a inline water valve just like u would find in a plumbing store to cut your garden hose off. under the hood they are chrome with brass handle called a ball valve. cut the hot water side off going into the cab and on heat just cirulation thru the motor. When the weather gets cold outside just open up the valve and be ready for heat. Good Luck

I have a gate valve in the hose under the hood. But around here it can be zero one morning, then 80 the following afternoon. I'd be wearing out the hood hinges opening and closing the valve. I also thought about using a vacuum actuated valve that's on my 69, but with a cam and vacuum wipers I don't know if I could stand any more vacuum loss. What I'm looking for is a valve that can be operated with a rod or cable and control the coolant flow through the heater.

I have a heater control valve, cable operated, from a Dodge, I think. Durn near universal, it's inline in the feed line and I control it with a universal choke cable. Any FLOPS can fix you up.

I found the number - Four Seasons brand, part #74628. Cable was a Dorman 100-001. I just used needle nose pliers to put a pigtail on the end on the cable (slides over the post).
