I have a set of disc brakes from a 72 half ton in the swap and was asked if they would work on a 60-66 1/2 ton. The set up I have includes the spindles, rotors & calipiers. I also have the lower control arms.

Has anyone here made this modification to their truck or can point me in the direction where I can find this out?

It will fit,, use 71 ball joints, tie rods are diff size, you can get a tie rod sleeve adapter from Classic Performance Products or use later model drag link assy. Brian

It is DISC BRAKES!

64 - Clarification please. The 60-66 control arms will work with the new ball joints or would the control arms also have to be swapped?

Are 60-62 control arms the same as 63-66?

Since the earlier trucks use torsion bars and the later ones are coil springs I would expect the control arms to be different.

Are the ball joints the same? Is so it seems likely the swap would be possible.

The 71-72 disc ball joints fit in the stock control arms on my 64, the ball joints/arms are entirely diff on 60-62 torsion bar trucks. Brian

I wondered. Houston I think the answer is that they will work for '63 - '71 disk brake conversions, but not for the earlier trucks.

Thanks. The person interested in my spindles evidently has a 64. I will pass the information along. Of course he will also need a proportioning valve and dual MC.

Steve,
Thanks for the concern. If we had some other place to go we would not be able to get there. The entire metro area is in gridlock going north, east or west. No stations have any fuel. People are running out of gas in traffic. There are no hotel rooms within 600 miles.
We are well prepared. Have fuel, food, family and friends. Have generator, water, scotch, cigars, and a truck in the garage to wrench on if I need to blow off steam.
Have boarded up windows to put the wife at ease, have set up neighbors with supplies, have gassed up the chain saws for the aftermath, and have invited the insurance agent (also friend) over for dinner tonight.
We are expecting wind damage and will be pleasantly surprised if it does not occur.
We really need some rain as the lake is down about 20 inches from normal and my shrubs are getting very thirsty. We would appreciate all the prayers and kind thought you and other can send our way.
There are so many people on the road still at this time and I certainly hope they have a destination and a full tank. Keep them in your thoughts also.
If there are any Houston area Stovebolters that need a garage for the duratio, get in touch with me now. We will make room.
