i know how to drive a three on the tree but i was thinking about changing to a 3 speed od how do you activate od or does it work like a torque converter or switch panel for each gear if so anyone have pictures of factory od set up going to put in 64

check out Jolly Goodfellow's GMC page - you can get there from the links page. Those transmissions have an OD that is controlled by an electric solenoid - the OD assembly is added to a standard transmission.

Please use capitalization and punctuation - it makes it so much easier to sort out what is being asked. smile

There are multiple ways of hooking them up. Anywhere from original to toggle switches.

But to answer your question on how to kick it into over drive you will be shifted into 3rd gear then let off the gas at around 29 mph then give it the gas. You will feel it kick in. Your rpms will drop.

This is on the 50s model 3 speed with OD.
