HI All, does anyone know of a site for decoding Canadian built truck VINs ?
The Stovebolt decoder, and any others I have found don't work. I have 2 trucks I have been trying to decode

Truck a. 7113300397
Truck b.4143304153

These are from the doorpost tags on AD trucks

Any help appreciated

There doesn't seem to be much online Canadian VIN info. I did find something on this page though. Scroll down to the first two links under section 4 of the page. Those links are to ZIP files that contain Word documents with Canadian serial number info. After wading through all the info in the documents, one will find sections on 47-51 Canadian-built Chevy/Maple Leaf and GMC trucks. I'm assuming the same info carries through '54 and probably '55 first series, except that the Maple Leaf was discontinued after '51, according to a note in the 2nd document.

It's actually pretty simple. The first digit of the serial number is the last digit of the model year. The next two digits denote the series (and make-Chevy/Maple Leaf or GMC), and the next two digits after that denote body/chassis type. The rest of the number is the build sequence number.

So, truck A would be a '47 model 1133, which is a Chevy (or Maple Leaf) 1.5-ton cab & chassis w/ 137" wheelbase, equivalent to a U.S. model 4103.

Truck B would be a '54 model 1433, or a Chevy 1-ton cab & chassis w/ 137" wheelbase, equivalent to a U.S. model 3803.

Does this seem like it would be correct?

This is how they break down according to my newly acquired Canadian Maintenance Manual for 1948-51. Note that the decoded years fall outside this range. If desired I can scan the information and pass it along to this site.

case a:
7 1947
1 Chev
1 1 1/2 Ton
3 Wheelbase 137"
3 Cab on chassis
397 production serial

case b:
4 1954
1 Chev
4 3/4 or 1 Ton
3 Wheelbase 137"
3 Cab on chassis
4153 production serial
