I have a 235 and 2 exhaust manifolds. One has a completely frozen heat riser and the other is movable but still quite hard to turn. Is there a way to free them up, or am I S.O.L.?

give a doseing of penatrateing oil.wiggle oil agaig let sit for a few hours.
oil again and wiggle some more.keep doing it untill it frees up. A little tapping with a small hammer will help too. Just don't hit it real hard
because you could break the manifold. Good luck and persistance will help too.

Woodhicks advise is just what mu 56 Buick shop manual says to do but they say lube with graphite after. I used some heat resistant gold colored stuff from NAPA to lube my Buick and the valve has worked for two years so far.

Woodhicks advice is what worked on my '54 3100 235. I am fortunate to have a buddy with plenty of experienced on old restorations.

Be very patient and use a tiny hammer, it will free up.

I was unable to free mine (54 1st 235) with a hammer. It had been rusted fast for I don't know how long. When I had the carb off for a rebuild I blew a lot of air through the manifold and cranked the engime a few times to expell the fumes then hit the manifold and riser shaft with a torch. After a few minutes I got a little wiggle. I removed the heat and just worked it back and forth until I had full travel. I have not lubed it but perhaps I will now that I read the other posts.
