I am ready to install the replacement glass on my vent windows on my 55.1

I have ordered the glass and the setting tape.

What is the best way to install them?

Here is what not to do...don't push the window "home" in the frame. Either measure where they go so they sit properly against the division bar weatherstrip and mark them, or make a jig so you can't shove them in too far. Chevy Duty say's soak the tape overnight in any motor oil and install with fabric side to window. I tried this and it sure didn't work for me. My tinted replacement glass was exactly the same
size as the factory glass and it barely seats in the frame when positioned against the division strip. Let me know how you do...I am going to try dry setting tape and urethane window adhesive next.

Try doing a search, I know this has been on here before..If you have a shop manual, it tells you in there, If you don't have a shop manual, you need to get one..Steve

Like atomarc says don't set it too deep. Install it with the tape dry, then add the oil (I used ATF since it was closest on the shelf) and let it set overnite. It swells the tape to hold the glass.

As Shooper says, search for old discussions on this topic for a lot of good information.

There are at least three thicknesses of setting tape. Use the thickness that is a little tight when dry fitting.

Also, put the tape in dry, as chuckthetruck (and the Shop Manual) says. Mineral oil or any engine oil will do fine.

I wimped out and let the guys at the glass shop cut and install the triangle in just the channel then reassembled the frame myself (that way if it cracks it's their problem not mine.
