For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 328 Member | | Member Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 328 | Noo noo noo, not the TV show - I'm planning when I hit 100,000 miles to do an overhaul on everything, engine, tranny, belts, ...just the whole nine yards. My question is, I've seen these overhaul manuals, but just how hard is this? How long is it going to take to complete this? It probably won't be right at 100K, cause I'll be in school, but maybe next summer/sping I'll do it.
Thanks guys | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | I have 230K on the original drive train of my 94 Sub. Why do you think you need to overhaul everything? If it ain't broke.... | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 | In most high milage things, it's better to replace typical "wear out" things before they puke on you on the side of the road.
For me, every 100K means new belts, fluid flush, new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, points (if applicable) fuel pump, and a close examination of both the starter and generator/alternator.
Tires, fuel tank inspection and flush, radiator flush, new grease in the differential and tranny, brake line, fluid, pads, drum inspection.
A valve check and adjustment dosen't hurt, either.
I guess that isn't really an overhaul.. more of a tuneup than anything.. but again, i'd rather not discover problems on the road at 1AM on the way home from the auction.
Guess the old saying "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" rings true to anybody who left the proverbial sleeping dogs lie only to discover their in tank fuel pump likes to puke when it's least approperiate.
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.
