I know this has been asked a million times and I'm sorry to waste everyones time but, If I drop in a 350 in my '53 what needs to be changed out besides obviously new motor mounts. Can I use the original 3 speed does the diff need to be changed? thanks, Jess

I haven;t done it, but I can tell the transmission won't last past the first time you try and light the tires in second gear. The slider gear is going to come apart. I got very good at replacing the slider gear in a 64 Impala with a 300 horse 327. Essentially the same transmission as you have.

Hi Jess,
The old 350 question? The short answer is it can be done and it will be a fun ride. The long answer is that it takes a lot to do it right. 350 V8 will need a better tranny. You will have to replace your torktube driveline and rearend. Then you have to think about better brakes and resove motor overheating issues if they occur. Will has done it on his PHAT52, and has replaced the front suspension also. Check out his truck sometime.
I put a 1957 283 V8 in my '55.1 with a TH350 auto tranny. I already had the open driveline rearend so I just needed a new drive shaft. I'm running stock suspention and brakes.

I dropped a 350 into my 67 GMC replacing the 250 inline 6. I am still running the Saginaw 3 speed and factory 3:73 peg leg rear end without a single problem. Is this the same kind of tranny you are running?? The Saginaw 3 speed is darn near bullet proof. I have put mine to the test over and over without any hang ups. My HP rating went from 140 with the inline to just over 300 HP with this 350.
