on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 120 Member | | Member Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 120 | I want to get a 12 port head for my 261. It seems that alot of you guys have had bad luck getting one. I don't want to get ripped off how can i insure that my money will be used properly. I have seen them at the wayne web site and was going to order from wayne is this a good idea. Please help $4000 is alot of money for anyone. the rest of my hot rod project doesn't cost this much. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 627 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 627 | DO NOT send money to Wayne, the guy running the joint dropped out of sight a few weeks ago with everyone's money. I learned my lesson the hard way, so now I'm broke and scrounging for cash to rebuild my stock head.
Note the $4000 gets you a bare head. Add $1500 for rocker assy, another $1000+ to get fuel to it, another several thousand to build a fully balanced block which is deserving of a head such as this.
Check out inliners.org. You might find a used head advertised and can post an ad as well. There is at least one other company that was making them new recently; "Duggan", and "Skinner".

Use the stock head and have a professional port and polish job. Should be more torque and acceleration than you'll ever really need for the street. Plenty of low end and mid range power to show off, do doughnuts, burnouts, etc., and still provide a reliable daily driver. You can certainly get away with building a 225-250 HP 302 (w/cam, small 4 bbl, headers) for less than the price of just the bare 12 port head. There's guys over there that never come over here to the General Truck forum Those guys live and breath the kind of stuff you're asking about.

A little mount fabbing but would exactly occupy the same space. There is a "sprint" version that came with a four barrel and I'm almost certain it had a cross flow( 12 port) head. With three side draft Webers on one side and six exhaust tubes on the other side it should make your pants leg get wet just looking at it. The basic complete engine wouldn't cost 1/3 as much as a wayne head, and it would still be all GM.

it won't wow you with looks, but clifford has a build sheet for the OHC six using their intake, headers and a 292 crank that displaces 302 CI | | |
