IMHO it is "worth" exactly:
The sum of whatever you are willing to pay for it plus whatever you are willing to put into it.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

However, knowing how these things often go...

It will probably end up costing nearly:
The sum of whatever you are willing to pay for it plus whatever you are willing to put into it times two.

Old car price guide Shows #5 condition $3120, #4 $5200, #3$11,700. The discription looks like it might be about a good #4. Remember the guy that wrote the book doesn,t buy em & they never are as good as you think or want em to be. smile

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Since there is a reserve, the real question is "What does the seller think it's worth?"

As far as fair market value, it depends on the market.. obviously the "value" of a truck like that will be higher in areas where they aren't as common.

For the sake of example, a '50 3100 in my neck of the woods that needs a paintjob, but is otherwise solid can expect to fetch between $300 and $800.. the same truck out East would fetch $2500.

The thing with eBay is that your selling products at a national level.. those folks might have a hard time getting $1500 for that truck if they put an add in the local paper, but i'd guess the final auction price on eBay will approach $3,000.

LOL Sorry guys, I should have clarified...I AM the seller. smile

I have recieved and offer from someone privately and I wanted to get some other opinions to see if the offer was fair. My description on ebay is very accurate I think. I'd does look decent, but REALLY, it needs a complete resto. I think it got what you could call a "Krylon rebuild".

Whatever you're asking, it's too high. (And those "value" books are wildly inaccurate) Drop me a line and I'll give ya a -fair- price. wink grin

Fumblin,

I like your geographic cost comparisons (and I believe you).

Let's make a deal: find me a 1954 Chevrolet Hydra-Matic 3100 for $1,000 or less and I will pay you a $1,000 finder's.

Price isn't the only thing that fluctuates with geographical location!

Being out here in farm country, the vast majority of trucks I find were purchased for farm use, and all i've found to date are maunals.. but i'll keep my eye out.

Not long ago I met a guy who picks up scrap metal.. old farm equipment, cars, trucks, stuff like that.. I called him today and told him I was looking for a '54 with an automatic tranny.. know what he said?

"You mean one that looks kinda like the one you just bought? Yea, I run across those.. but they don't come cheap. Last one I had I got $600 for."
