I have a 57 Chevy 3600 and I put a fuel tank out of a 78 Buick Riviera between the frame rails behind the rear axle. It fit with one alteration for the fill neck which required a half moon cut in the sheet metal under the tailgate. I hooked up the original fuel line and grounded it to the frame. I have been using it for 2 years now with no problem ... hope this helps in some way. Keb

ne1 ? Took me 5 minutes to figure out what the heck you were saying. Suggest you young wippersnappers keep that for your text messaging - if you want any help from us old codgers here we've got to understand "U"

Used 16 gal from Summit Racing. Its a racing gas tank between back rails little modification needed. Really looks nice with the mirror finished S. S. straps. Ben

Keb88, will the tank from the 78 Buick Riviera also fit a 56-3100? And did it exit under the tailgate?

It is whippersnapper. Your mind seem to be typing faster than your fingers. We will be glad to help but if your spelling and texting can't improve, as well as your description as to what you are trying to do and what you are already considering then expect some push back. As for the tank, this subject has been cussed and discussed several time especially for task force series truck. Try to research what has already been done.

You can make just about anything work as long as the general dimensions are good for the area you are mounting. If you are looking for a bolt in tank then go to the magazines and call a vendor. If you want to use something else then tell us the details as to what dimensions you have available, how many gallons you are wanting to feed and how you expect to access the tank..Side fill or bed fill.

We are happy to help but we cannot read minds. BTW Welcome to the bolt. If you have not already done so, introduce yourself here and tell us just what you are trying to do to your GMC.

What's wrong with the in-cab fuel tank? I've been driving mine for 23 years with one.

what Tab said, times a bunch [years and trucks] grin

but some wanna put their butt on the line, so to speak, in order to gain all the "useful space" behind the seat for junque collecting

I find custom cutting a piece of wood to sit on top the tank makes for a handy "trunk" for tools and such, without the risk of a ruptured tank from some yahoo rear ending me at speed, and w/o all the work of installing a different tank, sender, gauge, and filling in the stock filler hole!

red58: I like that shelf idea! Like you, I don't trust a rear mounted tank. Just ask any cop who drives a Crown Victoria. YIKES!
