You can get a very good idea of the wealth of information on this site (and the characters that post here) by pushing the "search" button in the upper right of this page and searching for "engine color". Also, this information from an old VCCA article on 1912-1966 Chevrolet engine colors is pretty helpful. As for transmission color, my bet is that they came from the factory au naturel (unpainted); however, I have no good reason for having this opinion. It's called Semi-Flat black. It has kind of a egg shell finish. Most of the auto parts stores have it.
