Last fall I took the motor out of my GMC for a rebuild. The truck is up and running again, ready for spring.

Job well done!! I'm working on a 46 pickup and a 48 flatbed right now.

Wow, you just had to go and put all our restoration attempts to shame. Two different glosses of black. What detail.

The new engine color requires sunglasses. Very nice.

Oh God, 534me that is ONE GORGEOUS MACHINE you have there my man! I'm not really a resto guy, but you've obviously put ALOT of time and effort into her. Beautiful! Keep up the good work!

Bessie's going to the Sodablaster next Monday. Motor to the machine shop, tranny too, and then.....wait a minute...oh, yeah...I need some money....honey, can I have $10,000.00 to fix my truck?....what, honey?..no, I haven't been sniffing paint fumes and drinking thinner...pack my stuff?...wait, I'm open to compromise...okay, okay...I'll wait a few more years until the baby's in school, but I'm fixing the truck like this guy's and you can't stop me...what do you mean,it'll be up to my "next wife"....

Your truck looks real nice. I am jealous - maybe by the 4th of July I will be posting pictures of my suburban.

Could you post a picture or two of the intake manifold heater you installed? Where did you get it?

Super job!! Makes me want to start all over again (and I'm not even done yet) and do a frame off. Ah well, maybe when I turn 60. Great looking truck!

Very impressive. GM wishes they could have built the truck that well with that much attention to detail. I think its right when I read about the restoration guy talk about restoring a chevy truck and he says that the projects are more like what Rolls Royce does than an assembly line.

Nice shop too. With a garage full of bikes, I am going to do most of the rust mountain in the driveway with maybe a canopy.

Tim, I made the intake manifold heater myself. Tony was good enough to send me pics of the heater set-up he made for Joys '51. It is a piece of 1/4 inch aluminum plate bolted under the intake manifold with a couple of holes tapped to 1/4 pipe thread for the water lines. I think I have a pic that I can post. When I find it I will put it up.

You have done a fantastic job! I have really enjoyed learning all the tricks of fixing and detailing these old trucks from you and the other folks on STovebolt. I used to restore and race european cars, now their gone ( except the wife's 66 VW vert) and am knee deep in my 1945 GMC 1/2 ton. I plan on doing many of the upgrades that you have done to your truck on my truck. I hope one day to post my pics as well and hope they come out half as good as your did. Good luck and hope to finally see that 53 in person. Let me know next time you are down in the Hartford Ct area again. Talk to you soon.

Tim, I found the picture of my manifold heater plate. It is 1/4 inch thick. The two holes are tapped with a 1/4 inch pipe thread tap. The lines are 1/4 inch with flared ends. I used the gasket included with the engine kit as a pattern to cut the plate.

I tried endless timing and carb adjustments to eliminate the hesitation in the absence of the stock manifold. I have read some debate here on the page about the effectiveness of heat under the intake. It cured the problem in my truck, the hesitation is no more.
